Founded in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1887, Babcock Lumber Company's heritage is a significant part of the hardwood industry's history in this country. In the early 1900's, Babcock was the largest producer of hardwood lumber in the world, cutting more than 400,000 board feet per day. Most of the land was subsequently donated to federal and state governments under the condition that it is left in its natural state.
